Lectures, Conferences & Intensive Courses

Besides its three LL.M. programs, DLS offers continuing legal education in four different formats. These include lecture series, annual conferences, intensive courses, and other presentations.

Certified participation in these formats has been previously accepted as Continuing Legal Education as required by the local bar for maintaining a legal specialization in its respective field according to § 14b of the FAO (Legal Specialization Ordinance).

Lecture Series

The research centers and institutes constituing the DLS offer a variety of lecture series (primarily in German). Regular lecture series include: the Werkstattgespräche auf Mickeln organized by the Center for Intellectual Property Law (CIP), the Forum Unternehmensrecht, sponsored by the Center for Business & Corporate Law (CBC), and the Praxisforum Informationsrecht, hosted by the Center for Information & Technology (CIT) law. For entrepreneurs, and those aspiring to become entrepreneurs, DLS offers the DLS-entrepreneurs series DLS-Gründerforum. This specialized program enables entrepreneurs to access relevant subject matters in an academic style while simultaneously enabling networking among peers.

Conferences

The Düsseldorf Patent Days (established 2000), hosted by Center for Intellectual Property, as well as the Düsseldorf Information & Technology Day (established 2003), hosted by the Center for Information & Technology, are annual conferences that have become the central events for both academia and practice in their respective fields.

The Center for Business & Corporate Law in cooperation with the Institute for Corporate Law of the University of Cologne and the Corporate Law Association (VGR) sponsors the Regional Corporate Law conference series.

Intensive Courses

DLS offers intensive courses in English and German. Participation will be certified. Intensive courses in English include the Summer School on European Business Law and the Düsseldorf International Arbitration School.

Other

In addition, from time to time, all centers and institutes offer presentations on current issues stemming from judicature, or legal policy.
